2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 Showcased at Intermot 2016

The 2016 Intermot has witnessed numerous motorcycle launches and updates. One of them is the 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 that comes with a plethora of cosmetics and mechanical updates. The new model is 19kg lighter than the outgoing model. One of the major contributors for this weight reduction is the new Trellis frame that incorporates asymmetrical aluminium frame. The manufacturer says that the new trellis frame that weighs just 15kg has helped to improve the handling dynamics of the sports tourer.

The engine now had to comply with the Euro 4 emissions norms, that resulted in a 3hp loss of power output compared to the predecessor. That said, the fuel economy is said to improve by around 8%. The 2017 Ninja 650 utilises 649cc parallel twin engine that has been tweaked to deliver improved low and mid-range torque. This was done by incorporating longer header pipes, 36mm throttle bodies, new air-box, and new intake & exhaust cams. The engine still utilises 6-Speed gearbox. However, the slipper clutch is a welcome addition. The updated brakes now utilise Nissin callipers and Bosch 9.1 ABS module.

Aesthetically, the 2017 Ninja 650 looks much sharper and takes its design inspiration from the ZX-10R superbike. It features ZX-10R like twin headlamps, split seat setup, adjustable windscreen with up to 60mm adjustability. To make it easier to ride for the short riders, the saddle height has been reduced to 790mm. Even the rear section of the bike is redesigned to look more modern but, the trademark underbelly exhaust is carried over from the previous model.
