Kawasaki Vulcan S Cruiser Launched at Rs 5.44 lakh

Kawasaki has launched a new cruiser motorcycle, Vulcan S priced at Rs 5.44 lakh (ex-showroom). Kawasaki Vulcan S will compete with the Harley Davidson Street 750 in the Indian market. Kawasaki India has been doing pretty well in terms of sales as they has plenty of models in their line-up. However, a cruiser was missing from the line-up, but the Vulcan S will fill that void now. Kawasaki Vulcan S is being assembled at the company’s Chakan factory. And only one ‘flat ebony’ black colour option is available for now.

The Vulcan S is based on the discontinued ER-6N naked motorcycle. The ER-6N is replaced by Z650 now. The design of the Vulcan is truly cruiser like- large fuel tank, long wheelbase, leather seats, and round headlamp. That said, it does have several modern touches like rear monoshock, alloy wheels, and semi-digital information cluster.

Engine and Gearbox

The Vulcan S is powered by a 650cc parallel-twin engine that makes 61PS of power at 7500 rpm and 62.78 Nm of torque at 6600 rpm. Yes, it’s that same workhorse engine that is found in several entry-level Kawasakis like Ninja 650 and Z650, but it has been tuned differently for the Vulcan. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox.

The Underpinnings

Being based on the ER-6N, the chassis is a diamond type frame with telescopic front forks and an offset rear monoshock. The monoshock can be adjusted in seven different ways, depending on the rider weight and preference. The stopping power comes from Single rotor disc at the front and rear. The ABS system comes as standard.

Speaking about the new motorcycle, Yutaka Yamashita, Managing Director of India Kawasaki Motor, said ”After our sports bikes, tourer bikes, naked bikes & off road bikes settled in India, we felt it was a right time for us to bring this cruiser in the market. There cannot be a better way to start a new year 2018 by introduction of our world-wide known Vulcan brand. It is different than any other cruiser mainly because of its powerful, yet easy-to-control engine, easy manoeuvring, light weight yet stable, highway riding and important to mention 14 litre fuel tank with good fuel economy.”
