Kawasaki Z900RS Retro-Modern bike launched at Rs 15.3 lakh

The only retro-modern motorcycle in the Kawasaki line-up, the Z900RS has been launched in India priced at Rs 15.3 lakh (ex-showroom). Kawasaki Z900RS comes as a surprise because this model was missing from the Kawasaki booth at the 2018 Auto Expo. This motorcycle is made in Japan and comes via CBU route to India. The Kawasaki Z900RS was first showcased last year at the Tokyo Motor Show. It’s beautiful retro design along with latest technology really impressed the Kawasaki fans. The Z900RS take inspiration from the classic Kawasaki Z1 from the 70’s. It incorporates tear drop shaped fuel tank, minimal body panels, round headlamp, and twin pod instrumentation. The riding position is much relaxed with footpegs positioned slightly forward and raised the handlebars.

Engine & Gearbox

That said, this thing just looks vintage. Behind the retro look is all the modern features that can be expected from a modern high-performance motorcycle. Powering the Z900RS is the same engine that can be found in the Z900 naked superbike, albeit slight detuning. In the Z900RS, this 948cc, 4-cylinder engine makes 110 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 72.53 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a tall 6th gear for relaxed cruising.

Modern Tech

Other modern features on the Z900RS includes switchable traction control, ABS, radially-mounted brake callipers, slipper clutch, and a hybrid analogue-digital instrument cluster. Some of these features are even missing from the more modern looking Z900 naked bike.

Competition

In India, the Kawasaki Z900RS competes with the Triumph Thruxton R which is price considerably lower at Rs 11.27 lakh (ex-showroom). We were expecting a lower pricing since custom duties on the CBU imported motorcycles were slashed last week. Where there be an update in the Z900RS pricing soon?
