Bajaj Auto undoubtedly leads the Indian Sports motorcycle market and has maintained its leadership for 15 continuous years. Today, Bajaj Auto launched its new brand for premium sports bikers – the Dominar 400. The biggest Bajaj motorcycle is powered by a 373cc triple spark four valves DTS-i engine with fuel injection and liquid cooling.
Going by the marketing attempts of this bike, the Dominar 400 takes its inspiration from the night. This is what the press release said: “When other bikes hesitate to step out and meet the intimidating darkness of the night; the Dominar 400 rises to meet, and master any challenge that the man or nature may offer.” Cringeworthy?
The Dominar 400 comes with a massive perimeter frame and contoured pressed-steel swing arm for a rock-solid ride. The 373.2cc DTS-i engine is said to deliver outstanding linear performance through its smooth six-speed transmission and slipper clutch (first in its segment). The engine churns out 35PS of max power and 35Nm of peak torque.
The suspension components on the Dominar 400 comprises of 43mm telescopic front forks along with a unique dual spring mono suspension at the rear. The stopping power comes from a 320mm front disc and 230mm rear disc. Moreover, the ABS variant features dual-channel ABS that also works when you lock the rear brakes. Dominar 400 becomes the only motorcycle in India to have full LED mosaic head lamps with balanced white light and vertical AHO (Automatic Headlights On). Going by the company’s marketing and the headlamp components, we believe that this bike should illuminate the road very well.
Speaking on the launch, Eric Vas, President – Motorcycle Business, Bajaj Auto Ltd, said, “Dominar 400 is the biggest motorcycle in its class. It is big yet comfortable, fast yet sure-footed, large yet manoeuvrable, powerful yet easy to control, and premium yet not out of reach for customers. With the Dominar 400, bikers can finally dominate cities, highways and mountains at any time and under any riding conditions. Domination comes naturally when you ride a Dominar 400.”
Pricing: Rs 1.36 lakh for the standard variant and Rs 1.50 lakh for the ABS variant (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The Dominar 400 shall initially be sold through 80 showrooms across 22 towns in the country. And the booking can be made through the company website by paying Rs 9,000. That said, the deliveries of the Dominar 400 will start in January 2017 only because, the company is also betting heavily on the export markets.
