Launched in India: Ducati Monster 797 and Ducati Multistrada 950

Ducati India launched two new motorcycles in the country- Monster 797 and Multistrada 950. Both these models are the entry-level offerings in their respective model range. Ducati Monster 797 starts the Monster (naked motorcycle) line-up. While the Multistrada 950 is the entry to Ducati’s Adventure touring segment. Let know more about each of these motorcycles:

Ducati Monster 797 (Price: Rs 7.77 lakh)

This entry level model in the Monster range is a perfect mix of Ducati’s traditional engine in a modern chassis. Powering this bike is the same L-Twin engine that powers the Ducati Scrambler. In fact, this engine did the duty in previous gen Monster. This 803cc, Testastretta, twin-cylinder, air-cooled engine makes 75 PS of power and 69 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The pricing of the Ducati Monster 797 has been kept at Rs 7.77 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Monster 797 was unveiled last year at the EICMA Motor Show in Milan. The idea behind the Monster 797 is to make is easily accessible to Ducati fans. The company has also tried to make it easy to ride motorcycle so that new riders should easily get accustomed to performance bikes. The slipper clutch comes as a standard fitment on the bike to make the downshifts smoother.

The design of the Monster 797 is similar to its elder siblings like Monster 821 and Monster 1200. It gets a double-sided swingarm and its 1,435 mm of wheelbase is shortest in the entire Monster range. The standard seat height of 805 mm can be lowered by going for a special optional seat. This option can be helpful to a lot of riders who don’t feel confident if their feet don’t touch the ground while in the riding position.

The Suspension comprises of 43 mm Kayaba upside-down front forks and Sach monoshock with adjustable preload at the rear. The stopping power comes from 320 mm dual discs on the front wheel and a single 245 mm disc at the rear. While the ABS is standard on the motorcycle, some other rider aids like traction control and riding modes have been given a miss. In India, the Ducati Monster 797 will go against the Kawasaki Z800 and the Triumph Street Triple S that was launched two days back.

Ducati Multistrada 950 (Price: Rs 12.60 lakh)

This motorcycle now starts the Multistrada range of adventure sport touring bikes. Multistradas are known for their confident stance and all-rounder capabilities. The Multistrada 950 is no different then. Powering the bike is a 937cc liquid cooled L-Twin engine derived from the Hypermotard. This unit makes 113PS of power at 9,000 rpm and 96.2 Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm. The engine transfers the power via 6-Speed gearbox equipped with a slipper clutch. The Multistrada 950 is priced at Rs 12.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Unlike the entry-level Monster, the Multistrada 950 comes packed with electronic aids like Traction control, four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro) and dual channel ABS. The Multistrada is based on a tubular steel trellis frame with the dual-side aluminium swingarm. The front 19-inch wheel is suspended by 48 mm KYB upside-down forks with 170 mm of travel. The rear 17-incher is hung on the fully-adjustable Sachs monoshock. The wheels are wrapped with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres.

The braking duties are handled by dual 320 mm discs with Brembo monobloc callipers at the front and 265 mm single disc at the rear. The Multistrada 950 can also be had with an optional lowered seat saddle. Its competition in the market is Honda Africa Twin, Suzuki V-Storm and Triumph Tiger 800XRx.
