Triumph Street Triple RS Introduced at Rs 10.55 lakh

Triumph launched the raciest version of the Street Triple, the Street Triple RS today. The pricing for this middle-weight naked bike has been kept at Rs 10.55 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Earlier, the company also launched the Street Triple S priced at Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom). So, what more do you get with the RS variant? Let’s find out-

Powertrain-

Powering the Triumph Street Triple RS is the same three-cylinder 765cc engine that was introduced this year itself. This engine is tuned to deliver more power in the RS variant compared to the S variant. Here we get 123PS of power at 11700rpm and 77Nm of torque at 10800rpm. For reference, the base variant Street Triple S makes 111PS of power and 73Nm of torque with the same engine. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox. Interestingly, this same engine will power the Moto2 racebikes 2019 onwards.

Riding Aids-

The previous generation Street Triple was especially lagging behind in terms of electronic riding aids. Every new performance motorcycle is now expected to have those, so the new Street Triple is laden with electronic wizardry. Some of the things worth mentioning are the ride-by-wire throttle with 5 riding modes (Rain, Sport, Track, Race, and a fully customisable mode), bi-directional quick-shifter, ABS with three modes, and 4-level of traction control.

Chassis-

The new Street Triple RS is built on the same twin-spar frame of the outgoing model but with a redesigned gullwing swingarm for improved torsional rigidity. Moreover, the rake angle is now reduced to 23.9 degrees from 24.1 degrees. Theoretically, this should make the bike feel more flickable and allow quick direction changes. The suspension unit consists of 41mm upside-down Showa big piston forks at the front and Ohlins STX40 monoshock at the rear. The stopping power comes from the dual 310mm disc brakes with Brembo M50 callipers at the front. At the rear, there is a 220mm single disc also with a Brembo calliper. RS Being the most performance orientated Street Triple model, it gets the grippier Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres. The new Street Triple RS is around 2kgs lighter than the outgoing model in spite of having additional features.

Competition Check-

Considering the competition, the Triumph Speed Triple RS looks like a good value for Rs 10.55 lakhs. Its closest rivals in India is Ducati Monster 821 (Price: Rs 10.25 lakh) Kawasaki Z900 (Price: Rs 9 lakhs) MV Agusta Brutale 800 (Price: Rs 15.59 lakh) and Aprilia Shiver 900 (price: 12.29 lakh)
