BMW 1-Series Sedan Debuts in China

BMW 1 Series sedan debuts at 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show

The luxury car manufacturers are seeing opportunity in the value-for-money entry-level premium car segment, Think cars like Audi A3, Mercedes CLA and BMW 1-Series sedan. Yes, the BMW 1-Series sedan that was unveiled earlier this year is the latest entrant in this segment. This car made its public debut recently at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show in China. Initially, the 1-Series will be sold just in the Chinese market.

In spite of being the stepping stone of the BMW ladder, the 1-Series look very mature and the design language is in sync its elder siblings. The car sports the signature BMW kidney grille along with contoured headlamp cluster.

The muscular lines on the bumper compliment the shoulder lines and bonnet creases, and enhances the sporty looks. The latest lighting tech like daytime running lights (DRLs), LED headlight and taillamps.

The 1-Series sedan claims to be the smallest luxury sedan in its class as its dimensions are- 4456mm in length, 1803mm in width, and 1446mm in height. The car rides on 5-spoke alloy wheels that give it the wheelbase of 2670mm.

The 1-Series sedan is offered with three petrol variants- 125i, 120i and 118i. 120I and 125i come with 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that makes 191.62PS and 230.14PS of power respectively. The 118i is fitted with a 1.5-litre TwinPower turbo engine that produces 135.85PS of power. All the variants share the same gearbox- an 8-Speed automatic unit.

Inside, the entry-level BMW sedan gets the dual-tone dashboard, leather upholstery and an 8-inch i-Drive screen in the centre. We think that BMW 1-Series has huge potential in the Indian market where it can compete with the Audi A3. However, the company has still not confirmed about its India launch.
