Coming to India: BMW M5 Competition Edition

Only 200 specimens of the M5 Competition Edition built

BMW F10 5-Series was introduced in 2011 and it proved to be the significant step up in terms of technology and design. Now, the new generation 5-Series will be out next year, and to celebrate the success of F10 5-Series, the company unveiled the special competition edition in July this year. Yesterday, BMW India announced through its Twitter handle that the BMW M5 Competition Edition is coming soon to India.

This special variant is also a limited edition model and only 200 specimens of the M5 Competition Edition will be made worldwide. How many units are allocated for India is still unknown.

Some of the highlights of this model include stiffer springs and dampers, thicker anti-roll bar, and ‘Active M’ differential. Additionally, the power output is also bumped up. The same 4.4-litre V8 engine is now running on increased turbo boost pressure, churning out 600PS of max power and 700Nm of peak torque.

Elements that sets apart the Competition Edition from the standard M5 are 20-inch M Double-spoke wheels, M performance carbon parts like the rear spoiler, diffuser and mirror caps. There will be only two paint options- Mineral White and Carbon Black, of which 100 units each will be built. Moreover, there will be ‘M5 Competition’ badge on the side.

Interiors of the Competition Edition also gets a special M Division touch. It features performance seats with unique stitching and black-white color scheme. Few options that are offered with the regular M5 are standards on the Competition edition, for instance, the head-up display, lane assist, and Bang & Olufsen stereo system. All the vehicles will also come with ‘1 of 200’ plaques on the door sills. When launched, the car is expected to cost between Rs 1.6 crore to Rs 1.8 crore ex-showroom. Its competition Audi RS7 performance is also launching in October (read about it here).
