The Velar will be positioned between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport in the company’s line-up. This latest SUV is based on the platform of its cousin, the Jaguar F-Pace, and that explains its car-like characteristics. The British manufacturer says that Velar has set the design tone for the company’s future products. The aerodynamics department worked hard to achieve a coefficient drag of just 0.32Cd, which is lowest for any Land Rover ever produced.

In terms of Design alone, Land Rover has a winner on their hands. The fans are appreciating a near perfect mix of sophistication and ruggedness in the design language.

Internationally, the Velar will be offered with six engine options- 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine in two state of tune- 178 bhp and 237 bhp; 2.0-litre petrol engine in 247 bhp and 296 bhp guise; Petrol and diesel V6 engines, petrol one churning out 375 bhp and diesel making 296 bhp. All the engines will utilise an 8-Speed automatic transmission. And like all Range Rovers, the Velar will also be off-road ready with its smart all-wheel-drive system.

The big SUV looks of the Velar is deceptive because its wheelbase of 113.5 inches is shorter than the Range Rover Sport. The smaller dynamics of Velar will help it to be a good city car also.

The futuristic cabin of the Velar looks straight out of a prototype. The smarphone users will love its full-touchscreen 10-inch infotainment unit, and at the same time, the Land Rover purists would appreciate the uncluttered look. When launched in India, the Range Rover Velar is expected to come with a base price of Rs 80 Lakh (ex-showroom).
