Lexus Coming to India in March-2017, Bookings Open
Lexus India will be bringing 3 Models initially- RX450h, LX450d and ES300h
Toyota Kirloskar Motors did immensely well in the year 2016 and it can’t be argued that it had its share of notable events this year. After bringing several new cars across different segments, the automobile maker is now reportedly preparing to drive in its luxury sub-brand Lexus to India by March 2017 as bookings for three models are now in full swing.
The outlets for the Japanese car brand will be named Lexus boutiques and the first is set to be placed out of Mumbai, according to several media reports. The showroom will be located at the Taj Santacruz hotel beside the Maserati showroom, which was solemnly opened earlier this year. In Delhi, the Lexus showroom will open up near Connaught place.
As previously reported, Lexus will arrive in India with no less than three bids in different segments – Lexus RX450h (hybrid) crossover, the ES300h sedan and the LX450d (or LX570) SUV. Initially, the cars will be imported through the CBU route with a possibly of adopting CKD route later on in the next few years.
The luxury automobile market in India has been hit severely by the crackdown against pollution, which started in the National Capital Region (NCR) and was followed by other parts of the country. The fact, that luxury cars contribute only one percent of the total car market in the country, could also be a disturbing statistic.
Nevertheless, Lexus is enjoying wide success in the western markets, along with its popularity in China. It gave automobile makers like BMW and Jaguar Land Rover a tough run for their money throughout the world. If Lexus India manages to generate enough enthusiasm for its brand in India, it will surely be a success story to watch out for.
