2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA unveiled, coming soon to India

Mercedes-Benz’ mini SUV, the GLA has been in news lately and that is because it has undergone a transformation, only to catch a little more attention. The changes might be subtle for the naked eye, but are worth a look. Of course, the feature that catches immediate attention is its new paint shade ‘Canyon Beige’. The colour gives it a classy and a rough look, both at the same time. Adding to it are the new wheels with a black finish. The revamped front and rear bumper along with the all-LED headlamps extend the list of changes. Its matte-black cladding gives it a masculine appearance by being made more obvious. As it appears, these alterations make it resemble the Mercedes’ SUV range which includes GLC and GLS.

The most prominent inside-updates being the 8.0-inch display with navigation support, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is in line with the new CLA. It also provides new upholstery options to pick from and a hint of chrome around the centre stack. Other features include a first-in-class 360° camera which allows the feed to be viewed as full image with seven distinct split screens along with a virtual top view.

As far as the engines are concerned, the petrol and diesel units remain the same. In the Indian market, it is expected to be offered in the 200d (136PS), 220d 4MATIC (170PS) and 200 (184PS) models. Engines have been paired with Mercedes’ seven-speed transmission. In the global market, there is another all new petrol model, GLA220, landing between the base 200 and the top model 250. And not to forget the GLA with AMG badging retains the magnificent 2.0-litre petrol motor that generates 381PS of power and 475Nm of torque.

Considering the popularity of the most affordable SUV by Mercedes, the makers are expected to introduce the revamp to our markets soon. Being locally produced, prices are expected to continue to be competitive, with a starting price of around Rs 32 lakhs.
