New Honda CR-V Revealed in Detroit

Honda CR-V has always remained a popular model of the Japanese car make. Now, the company has revealed the fifth-generation CR-V in Detroit. The car will go on sale in the US by late 2016. The new CR-V is built on Honda’s compact global platform, that made its debut in the tenth generation Civic. Powering the SUV will be company’s latest range of VTEC-Turbo petrol engines along with the existing engine options. The car will come to India only after the European market launch in 2017.

In terms of looks, the 5th-gen CR-V has gone for a butch looks to check the first box in the SUV-designing recipe. From the front, it picks up the design cues of its smaller sibling- the BR-V. The sweeping headlamps with the wing-shaped LED daylight running lights come in all trims. The wide, muscular fenders, adds the appeal of a typical utility vehicle. The new CR-V sits on a longer wheelbase, with shorter rear overhang and dual tip exhausts. Honda has also added new alloy wheels to complement the design changes.

Step inside, and the things are different here too. It features improved material quality that can be noticed through the soft-touch dashboard and in the seat stitching craftsmanship. The cabin borrowed several components and design language from the latest Hondas, including the latest Civic sedan. In spite of modern design, some elements like dash-mounted gear lever of the earlier generation CR-V has been retained.

Powering the new Honda CR-V is a new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which makes around 193PS of power and develops 288Nm of torque. And a 2.4-litre, the naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine develops 187PS of max power. Both the engines are mated to an automatic continuously variable transmission.

The new CR-V comes loaded with features like digital central instrument cluster display picked-up from the Civic, along with Honda’s latest seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that protrudes out of the dashboard. It comes with a high-tech navigation system that has been co-developed with Garmin. The infotainment system also supports Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. The feature list also includes dual-zone climate control, remote engine start, heated wing mirrors, Electric parking brake, electrically-adjustable front seats, etc.
