New Toyota Fortuner Registers 5,400 Bookings Already

 

Completely new Toyota Fortuner was presented to the public on November 7 (Read: New Toyota Fortuner Launched). Less than three weeks later Toyota dealers are already announcing waiting periods not shorter than two months for both of the versions – diesel and petrol. According to the official Toyota’s version, the SUV has registered more than 5400 bookings and 16,000 queries.

According to some dealerships, their order books are already overflowing to the extent that will be twice as many bookings as available stock. It is not any surprise that “gray metallic” color has found fewer customers, and the most popular become white. Deliveries of the new Fortuner have already begun, with Toyota notifying a “main customer preferences towards the automatic transmission”.

The SUV is presently offered with 2.8 liter diesel and 2.7-liter petrol engines with price spreading between Rs 25.92 to 31.12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The diesel engine produces 177PS of power and 420 Nm of torque with a six-speed manual gearbox and 450 nm with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine is fine for 166PS of power and 245 Nm of torque and can be had with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. While petrol is only offered with 2WD, the diesel gets a 4×4 variant also.

While the old Fortuner was somewhat underequipped, this new iteration has many new special features that include LED lights, 17- (2WD) or 18 inches (4WD), alloy wheels, Intelligent Key and a powered tailgate. Next offered is a reach and rake, adjustable steering wheel, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, power modes and more advanced touch screen information system (with GPS navigation) than the one offered also in the old Fortuner. The safety package is voluminous and also includes seven airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill-start Assist and Hill-Descent Control.
