Paris Motor Show: New Audi Q5 Unveiled

New Audi Q5 will arrive in India next year

Earlier this year there were several reports of spotting the camouflaged Audi Q5. Now, as expected, the German car maker has unveiled the new Q5 SUV. The new Q5 is constructed using aluminium and high-tensile steel, which has resulted in weight loss of 90Kg compared to the present model. And it looks much sportier and muscular.

At the front, there is a hexagonal grill that extends towards the sleek looking headlamps. The Matrix LED headlamps also feature dynamic turn indicators. There is a fair bit of design lines and creases that make it look more dynamic. On the side, there is the RS5 like shoulder line that runs all along the body and vanishes into the tail lights. The wheel arches are also flared for a sporty stance. The rear of the car drops down at a slight angle and houses LED tail lights that also get their own set of dynamic indicators.

If you are familiar with latest Audis, the equipment list will look quite similar. It comes with 12.3-inch ‘Virtual cockpit’, an 8.3-inch infotainment screen with a rotary controller and handwriting recognition. The Audi’s MMI system is paired with the Bang & Olufsen sound system. Moreover, a tablet is provided for rear seat entertainment and controlling the pneumatic massaging seats.

Internationally three engine options- 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 3.0-litre V6 diesel engines, and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. The 2.0-litre diesel engine is offered in various states of tune- 150PS, 163PS, and 190PS. While the 3.0-litre diesel engine makes 286PS and the 2.0-litre petrol motor makes 252PS.

Presently, the powertrain configuration for the Indian-spec Q5 is still unknown. The new Audi Q5 is expected to arrive in India next year and will compete with cars like Mercedes-Benz GLC, and BMW X3. The expected showroom price is around Rs 50 lakh.
