Mahindra Making Rs 1,500 Crore Investment, Will help the upcoming MPV

If the news of the upcoming multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) by Mahindra was not enough food for your motoring thoughts, then here is the news of the process gaining momentum. As announced by Mahindra, a massive investment of Rs 1,500 crore will be made in its Nashik and Igatpuri plants, as a part of its future expansion plans. What does this have to do with the MPV? Well, this investment, or a part of it is going to be made towards this product, U321 which is the code name of the MPV that has not been disclosed as yet. Its development and production seem to be on the cards. A two-stage allocation of the resources has been planned. While the Nashik plant will have funds invested in manufacturing of vehicles, the funds for the Igatpuri plant will be invested in the manufacture and supply of engines. A well-planned strategy that is.

Up till now,  Mahindra has kept the production of its model like the Bolero, Scorpio, Xylo, NuvoSport and Thar for its Nashik plant. This has been launched as an ‘Ultra Mega Project’ in their words and rightly so. To give a tough fight to its rivals like the Toyota Innova Crysta and Tata Hexa, this is going to be of great help. A pump up of the economic activity of the nearby areas comes as a by-product of this project.

While not a lot can be said about this MPV, it can be expected to feature leather upholstery, captain seats, automatic climate control and a touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto connectivity. From what is visible of the spy shots, it appears to have a three-row seating, all of them facing the front, like the Xylo. The launch of the much talked about U321 MPV can be expected in the second half of 2017 or beginning of 2018.
