Volvo XC40 SUV Launched in India (Price & Images Inside)

The Day has come. Volvo has launched its latest entry-level SUV- XC40. The price of Volvo XC40 in India has been kept Rs 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This however is the introductory price, and the company says that it will be raised soon. The India-spec Volvo XC40 will be fully loaded R-Design variant. More variant could be added later. The Swedish manufacturer started bookings for XC40 in May.

The XC40 is powered by Volvo’s familiar 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel (D4) engine. The engine sends 190 Ps of power and 400Nm of torque to all-four-wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Volvo would consider offering the optional petrol engine if there is a shift in the market demand. Charles Frump, MD of Volvo Auto India said; “90 percent of customers demand a diesel engine in this segment, hence we took the decision to offer only a diesel.” Volvo claims very good performance figures; Top Speed: 210 Kph, and 0-100 Kph in 7.9 seconds.

The R-Design variant of XC40, that is offered here come with equipment like 18-inch alloy wheels, 750-watt 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless mobile phone charging, Volvo’s 9.0-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered tailgate, and heated front and rear seats.

USP of Volvo Being ‘Safety’, the XC40 gets numerous crash mitigation systems like lane-keeping assist, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, emergency braking, ESP, traction control, hill descent control. Additionally, there are 7-airbags throughout the vehicle.

Volvo XC40 competes with Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, and Audi Q3. Volvo XC40 is larger in dimensions compared to all its competitors and this should give it edge in the Indian market that loves big SUVs.
