VW Motorsport Ameo Cup Selection Process Completed

15 new driver get onboard for Ameo Cup National Racing Championship

Volkswagen Motorsport has imprinted a big footprint on the Indian motorsport scene. This year VW Motorsport Ameo Cup is replacing the Vento Cup series, and 15 new drivers are picked for this. The selection process for the Ameo Cup was conducted at Indi Karting track in Kharadi, Pune on 17th and 18th December.

Like the Vento Cup, the Ameo Cup one-make series will be a part of FMSCI-MMSC Indian National Racing Championship. The racing grid will consist of 20 driver- 15 new and 5 drivers from previous VW Motorsport season. Over 600 aspirants registered for the Ameo Cup through the online registration form. But select few were invited to the selection camp where their performance was judged by two judges- Sirish Vissa, head of VW Motorsport India and Rayomand Banajee, Driver coach for VW Motorsport.

The drivers were judged on parameters like perfecting racing lines, consistency, driving attitude, fitness, lap times, and learning capability. During the two-day selection process, the participants were briefed about techniques and guided by Rayomand Banajee about the importance of sponsorship in the world of Motorsports.

Sirish Vissa, head of VW Motorsport India, said, “Volkswagen Motorsport India has been committed to nurturing budding racing talent and it is pleasing to see such enthusiasm amongst youngsters from across the country. We have seen some promising racing talent come forward this year and I look forward to seeing them put their learnings to practice in the competitive rounds. With the introduction of Ameo Cup, we expect to see more action on the tracks which will help take this the sport to the next level in this season.”
