BMW Discontinues Z4 Production

The German car maker, BMW has stopped the production of its iconic roadster- the Z4. The last Z4 rolled out of the factory floor on 22nd-August-2016. The BMW Z4 will be replaced by the new Z5 that will be revealed in the year 2018.

First launched in 2002, the Z4 became the car that comes to mind when one thinks of a roadster, despite having competitors like Mercedes SLK, and Porsche Boxster. In 2009, the second-generation Z4 with the more elegant design was introduced, making it more desirable for the masses.

The upcoming BMW Z5 will be developed in collaboration with Toyota. It is believed that the Japanese manufacturer will lend the much-awaited Supra’s platform to BMW for the development of Z4’s successor. Globally, the Z4 was available with a 2.0-litre, six-cylinder 2.5-litre powerplant, and a 3.0-litre engine in various states of tune. The powertrains can be carried over to the Z5 but it won’t be surprising if BMW incorporates hybrid powertrain or All-Wheel-Drive layout.
