Maruti Dzire ZDi+ Diesel Is Not A Good Buy
So You have about Rs. 10 lakh to spend on a frugal Maruti sedan. Should you pick the fresh out of the oven Dzire ZDi+ or the tried and tested Ciaz Zeta diesel? What will fetch you a better value for the money spent? I think the Dzire ZDi+ may not be a good idea.
The new Maruti Dzire is a whole lot better than the previous generation of the compact sedan. It’s a little pricier, though. The Ciaz has left the Maruti Suzuki showroom and moved to the classier Nexa dealership. The diesel trims of the Ciaz still enjoy the lower VAT (5% in Delhi instead of 12.5%) and lower excise duty (12.5% instead of 24%) keeping their ex-showroom price attractive. At least for buyers in and around Delhi.
The (ex-showroom, Delhi) price tags end up looking something like this:
- Maruti Dzire ZDi+: Rs. 8.94 lakh
- Maruti Ciaz Zeta Diesel: 8.96 lakh
That begs the question: should you buy the top-spec Maruti Dzire ZDi+ or the Ciaz Zeta diesel? Let’s break it down.
Dzire & Ciaz Specs
The Ciaz is a segment higher than the smaller car here, and it shows. It’s longer, has more wheelbase, more power, bigger fuel tank and even the mileage figure is on par with the comapct sedan despite a weight disadvantage of about 600kg.
Dzire & Ciaz Features
On the feature front, it’s a good idea to first get the common ones out of the equation.
- Rear Armrest
- Rear AC Vents
- Climate Control
- Power Mirrors
- Steering-Mounted Controls
- USB, Bluetooth, Aux Music System
- Alloy Wheels
- Reversing Camera
- Parking Sensor
- ABS
- Dual Airbags
- ISOFIX Child Seat Anchor
- Seatbelt Pre-Tensioners & Force Limiters
The two Maruti sedans also have some exclusive features.
As you can see, the Dzire has more tech features that modern day software professional will appreciate. The Ciaz packs some luxury features, which that the occupants, especially those at the back will enjoy.
Conclusion
The good news is that both the cars are so good that you can’t go wrong with either of them.
Buy the Dzire ZDi+, if you are a technoholic. The new Dzire is very proportional in design. The legroom and boot space are vastly improved and the interiors look livelier with the leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel.
For those who are content with not having the latest in the business, the Ciaz is a better fit. You’ll enjoy it while you sit in the front and also when you’re in the back seat. The space on offer is leagues above the Dzire, and the fuel efficiency is also almost similar. Plus, you’ll end up with a car that’s a segment above. While selling it off, that segment distinction will pay itself off without costing you a dime.
GST is also taking away subsidies for hybrids and the Ciaz diesel will again become a pricier car. Once the prices of the Maruti Ciaz diesel go up, it’ll also jack up the resale prices. That means less depreciation.
The Ciaz has been around for some time, which means, you could also get some discounts and end up with a better deal than what you can see here. The Dzire is going to see long waiting periods as it already accumulated over 45,000 bookings within a month. Another good thing is that you can use it on odd-even days if that problem arises again in Delhi.
