BMW G 310 GS Debuts at EICMA 2016
G 310 GS is the entry-level adventure motorcycle based on the G 310 R
BMW Motorrad finally revealed its entry-level adventure touring motorcycle at the EICMA 2016- the BMW G 310 GS. This motorcycle takes inspiration from flagship BMW R 1200 GS motorcycle, and is based on the G 310 R naked motorcycle that was developed in partnership with TVS Motors.
The G 310 GS is the third project to come out of BMW-TVS technology alliance. The first two were the G 310 R and the TVS Akula 310 concept showcased at the AutoExpo. This entry-level adventure motorcycle is developed by BMW Motorrad in Germany and the TVS Motors manufactured it here in India.
BMW Motorrad’s latest offering will feature long-travel front forks, off-road tyres, and several design elements from the high-end BMW GS range of motorcycles. The engine of the motorcycle is the same that powers the G 310 R. It’s a liquid-cooled 313 cc single-cylinder engine that churns out 34PS of power and 28Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-Speed gearbox. That said, we still need confirmation if the gear ratios are similar to the G 310 R.
One benefit of being based on the G 310 R platform is that the development cost was reduced. This will allow the manufacturer to price it competitively in the market. In the Indian market, the G 310 GS will lock horns with bikes like Royal Enfield Himalayan, and the Upcoming KTM 390 Adventure. That said in in the International market, we can also add Suzuki Vstrom 250 and Kawasaki Versys 250 to the competition list.
