Lamborghini Urus First Look

Lamborghini Urus in now finally out in the public. The Urus is Italian car maker’s second SUV after the LM002 SUV that was loved for its ruggedness. After focusing on just making supercars for a long time, the market demand for SUVs forced the company to introduce Urus. From the start, Lamborghini wanted the Urus to retain its supercar origins. This is now one of a kind Lamborghini that can seat five people and one need not wait for the perfect environment to take it out for a drive. Being a VW Group product, Lamborghini Urus shares its platform with SUVs like Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, and the Audi Q7.

Looks

The Urus has remained true to the first concept that was showcased in 2012. However, the actual car turned out to look bigger in dimensions. A Customer interested in Urus should have a hard time finding alternatives. Well, maybe Porsche Cayenne but not really. The design is a delicate subject but Lamborghini does look like an amalgamation of supercar and an SUV. The front of the car has a hint of Aventador but some people might not like that an SUV does not have a wide intimidating grille. The Urus does gets massive grille but that’s the part of the front bumper. The sloping roofline of the Urus makes it look hunkered down from the rear, giving it an aggressive stance. The rear has a small glass area and long LED taillamps. It rides on massive 21-inch Alloy wheels (23-inch are optional).

Engine and Gearbox

Lamborghini Urus utilises a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine that makes 641 PS of max power and 850 Nm of peak torque. This engine is the first Lamborghini turbocharged engine. The engine comes mated to an 8-Speed torque converted automatic gearbox. The company didn’t go with the Dual-clutch transmission from the Huracan because of the extra torque and turbocharged engine’s power delivery character in the Urus.

Performance

The Lamborghini Urus Weights overs a 2 ton and yet its performance figures are excellent. It does 0-100 kph in just 3.6 seconds and 0-200 kph in 12.8 seconds. The top speed of this SUV is said to be 305 kph. These numbers make it the faster SUV in the world. Being an SUV, it comes with 4WD (four wheel drive) and torque vectoring rear differential.

The biggest complaint people have with the turbocharged engine is that they have turbo lag. Meaning that the engine response with you put your foot down is slower. To counter this effect, Lamborghini claims that they have placed the turbochargers closer to the combustion chambers. This helps them spool faster and helping in improved engine response.

Other Features

The Lamborghini Urus comes with the adaptive suspension which can be adjusted with a flick of a button. The Suspension can be set to driven on a racetrack or to tackle icy road conditions. The Braking duties are handled by 440mm discs at the front and 370mm discs at the rear. Lamborghini will be launching the Urus in India next year. And pricing is expected to be close to Huracan.
