Volkswagen Ameo competes with Ford Figo Aspire and Honda Amaze
Volkswagen has launched the much-awaited diesel version of the Ameo. The pricing for the sub-4 metre sedan starts at Rs 6.33 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The diesel Ameo is available in three variants- Trendline, Comfort, and Highline. Additionally, there are automatic variants also for the latter two.

Trendline MT- Rs 6.33 lakh
Comfortline MT- Rs 7.35 lakh
Highline MT- Rs 8.16 lakh
Comfortline AT- Rs 8.50 lakh
Highline AT- Rs 9.31 lakh
Powering the Ameo is the updated 1.5-litre TDI, 4-cylinder diesel engine that develops 110PS of max power along with a peak torque of 250Nm. The engine can be had with a 5-Speed manual transmission or the 7-Speed automatic DSG transmission. Interestingly, the Ameo petrol is only offered with a manual gearbox.
Speaking at the launch event, Michael Mayer – Director,Volkswagen India said, “We have witnessed a successful launch of our made-in-India and made-for-India Ameo Petrol during the summer this year. Now with the Ameo Diesel being introduced during the festivities, we have an opportunity to cater to a wider set of customers, thereby further expanding the Volkswagen family. Ameo diesel will be equipped with a 5-speed manual and our very popular 7-speed DSG gearbox transmission making it the most compelling proposition in the segment.”
Apart from the powertrain, the diesel Ameo remains similar to it petrol counterpart. Some of the features include- rain sensing wipers, cruise control cooled glovebox, and other gizmos like touchscreen infotainment.
It’s appreciable that the German manufacturer provided ABS, and driver & passenger airbags as a standard fitment across all variants of Ameo. The Volkswagen Ameo competes with the cars like Honda Amaze and Ford Figo Aspire.
