KTM 790 Adventure Spied Testing
KTM 790 Adventure will be based on the new 790 Duke
The adventure motorcycles gaining popularity world over, and it’s understandable when you consider how practical they are. We have all heard rumours about KTM bringing the adventure motorcycle based on the 790 Duke that was unveiled at the 2016 EICMA motor show. Here are the first few spy images of this camouflaged motorcycle that was reportedly doing on-road tests for fuel consumption figures.
Stephan Pierer, head of KTM recently unveiled that they are working on an 800cc adventure motorcycle. Therefore, we can guess that the spied bike is the very same bike. Going by the nomenclature of KTM, the bike should sport the ‘790 Adventure’ name.
This upcoming KTM will be powered by latest 800cc parallel-twin engine. From the images, we can make out that the bike will utilise long-travel WP forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The stopping powers comes from the twin-disc setup at the front with 2-pot radial Brembo callipers and a single disc setup at the rear. Like most of the adventures bikes, the 790 Adventure will ride on spoke wheels- 21 inches at the front and 18-inch at the rear.
Design wise, the headlight looks out of place but that’s probably because this is a prototype and company has picked up headlight straight from the factory’s part bin. However, expect it to have a sleeker front fairing with LED headlamp like the other KTM Adventure bikes. KTM has mastered the art of building lightweight bikes, and the 790 Adventure’s minimalistic design suggests that it will be pretty light-weight as well.
To see the finished road going version of the 790 Adventure, we will have to wait a lot as this bike is expected to go on sale only in 2018. As for the Indian-market, we can only hope that KTM decides to bring it here. But, before that we are expecting to see the 390 Adventure on Indian roads.
