Porsche is one of the few brands that has not deviated from its roots of making sports cars. It’s Track weapon 911 GT3 recently received a makeover and as it is said to be the fastest 911, it had to prove it. This new-generation 911 GT3 broke the Nurburgring lap time record of the previous car by 12.3 seconds!
It registered an astonishing lap time of 7 minute and 12.7 seconds. Powering this car is a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine that makes 500PS of power and 460Nm of torque. Porsche says that this essentially is a racecar engine in a road car. To sharpen the steering, it is equipped with rear axle steering that aids the front wheels and makes it a precision driving experience. The car comes fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup N1 tyres, the same tyre on which this Nurburgring laptime was posted.
“By achieving this time, we have emphatically proven that the new 911 GT3 not only provides the best driving experience but can also deliver an impressive performance on the Nordschleife. The focus was on optimising the driving quality and adapting to the slight increase in engine power,” said Frank-Steffen Walliser, vice-president, Motorsport and GT cars, Porsche. “A few years ago, lap times like this could only ever be achieved by thoroughbred racing cars with slick tyres,” added Andreas Preuninger, director, GT Product Line. “The new GT3 can now achieve this with comparatively modest power, but is still fully suited to everyday use.”
