2017 BMW 5 Series Imported to India for Testing
BMW G30 5 Series, the upcoming 2017 iteration of the executive sedan is still under the wraps but BMW India has imported a 520d and a 530d for testing or even homologation. This information is backed up by Zauba, an import and export records aggregator.
One of the major change for the G30 5 Series is that it’s built on a CLAR platform that featured in the BMW 7 Series. This platform utilises lightweight materials like aluminium, carbon fibre and high-strength steel, making it considerably lighter that current model. Expect weight saving of around 100kg, depending on the variant. Additionally, the suspension system of the 2017 5 Series is also highly updated; it now incorporates newly designed double-wishbone front suspension and a new five-arm rear axle.
BMW 5 Series G30 will be offered in three trims: Sport, Luxury and M Sport. Customers will also be able to choose from options like adaptive dampers or sport suspension. The powerful variants of the 2017 5 Series will also come with an optional all-wheel steering that improves the handling characteristics and manoeuvrability by modulating the rear wheel steering angle to complement the front wheels steering.
Internationally, the 2017 5 Series will be offered with multiple petrol and diesel engine options in the range 2.0 to 4.4-litre capacity. The variants imported by BMW India, 520d and 530d produces around 190PS and 258PS respectively. Since luxury car manufacturers in India are adding petrol variants to their line-up, we are also expecting the BMW 520i (read Audi A4 launched with 1.4 TFSI engine). The 2017 BMW 5 Series will be unveiled next year in January at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. Therefore, it’s safe the say that the new 5 Series will only hit the Indian roads sometime around mid-2017.
