BMW Updates its Petrol Engines to BSVI and Launches Shadow Edition 3-Series
As the India is moving towards cleaner fuels, BMW has updated its petrol offering to comply with BS-VI emission norms. This makes BMW the only car maker with maximum number of BS-V1 compliant vehicles. This includes 3-series, 5-Series, X3, X5 and more.
Previously, its competitor Mercedes-Benz made the move to offer BS-VI compliant S-Class 350d which uses a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine. Diesel vehicle requires more modification to the meet the strict emissions norms, while Petrol engines require little updates. So far, the BS-VI fuel is only available in Delhi/NCR region and the rest of the country will switch to this cleaner fuel by 1st April 2020 when meeting BS-VI norm becomes mandatory. BMW Says that while the newer cars will be capable of running BS-VI fuel, the BS-IV grade fuel won’t do any harm. While it’s not announced, we don’t expect to see any changes in the pricing of the cars.
BMW Introduces Shadow Edition 3-Series
Along with this, BMW also announced the launch of limited edition 3-Series variant called the ‘Shadow Edition’. The Shadow Edition will be offered in two configurations- 320d Edition Sport and 330i M Sport. The Shadow Edition 320d Sport has been priced at Rs 41.40 lakh and the Shadow Edition 330i M Sport costs Rs 47.30 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
This special edition model comes with new high-gloss black paint on the Kidney grille and the frame, smoked headlights & Taillights, galvanized tailpipe tips and new 18-inch rims. On the inside, there is a 10.5- inch instrument cluster with a heads-up display, 8.7-inch infotainment unit, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, BMW apps, powered front seats, and M Sport leather steering wheel. Other features include two-zone climate control, parking sensors, and cruise control with lane keeping. Passenger safety if taken cared by six airbags, brake assist, ABS, dynamic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
BMW 320d is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that makes 190PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. BMW 330i, on the other hand, uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 252 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox with paddleshifter.
