Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X Spied; Launching soon

Royal Enfield is one of the iconic motorcycle brands that managed to prosper and grow tremendously. 2017 was a great year for Royal Enfield as posted record sales numbers and also revealed the two new motorcycles based on parallel twin engine- RE Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.

Now, the fun doesn’t seem to stop there as a new model of Thunderbird 500 has been spied. Looking at stickering on the spied images this new model will be named Thunderbird 500X. These spy shot are reportedly shot at a dealership in South India. Therefore, it’s safe to say that this model should be launched in India soon ( before 2018 Auto Expo in February).

Target Audience

The RE Thunderbird 500X is more colorful and has an energetic theme. This motorcycle could target a younger audience who were shying away from Royal Enfield because they look too mature. Apart from eye-catching colors, this touring motorcycle will also feature alloy wheels and tubeless tires. Additionally, most of the chrome parts are now matt black here. This includes handlebars, engine, exhaust, and instrumentation pods. The Redditch Edition Classic 350 also pulled in a lot of young buyers

Even the handlebar on the Thunderbird 500X looks like it’s borrowed from the Classic 500 instead of Thunderbird. This should change the riding posture of Thunderbird 500X to better suit street riding.

Mechanicals

The Engine and Gearbox will remain the same. It’s a 499cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that pumps out 27.5 PS of power at 5250 rpm and 41.3 Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-Speed transmission that sends the power to rear wheels via chain drive. The suspension comprises to telescopic fork legs at the front and gas-charged twin shockers at the rear. The launch price of Thunderbird 500X is expected to be around Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom).
