Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG will lock horns with Audi S5 and Ford Mustang
Mercedes’ 13th product launch of the year comes in the form of the new C43 AMG. For the uninformed ones, think of the 43 AMG line as the entry-level executive cars that pack a punch but are not as intimidating or discerning as the larger ’63’ range. The C43 will be available in one variant that comes with a price tag of Rs 74.35 lakh (ex-showroom). The other 43s available in the country are- GLE43 (aka GLE450 AMG) and the SLC43, each priced at Rs 89.25 lakh and Rs 77.5 lakh respectively.
The days of V8s and V12s AMGs are waving us bye. The folks at AMG department have embraced the concept of forced induction. Just like the other 43-badged siblings, the C 43 gets a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine that delivers 367PS of power and 520Nm of torque. The engine is coupled with a new 9-speed gearbox.AMG goodies too, that include the AMG Dynamic Select (its lets you setup the steering, engine, suspension and gearbox individually). And Staying true to its AMG genetics, the C43 is also loaded with AMG Dynamic Select (its lets you setup the steering, engine, suspension and gearbox individually).
To the unpracticed eye, delicate visual improvements on the baby AMG are easy to overlook. It retains the same proportions and look as a standard Class C, but gets a small dose of muscle for that extra sportiness. AMG-specific details contain a different, more aggressive set of bumpers, the “Diamond Grille” and larger alloy wheels 18-inch. Small exterior bits like outside mirrors and the window line are finished in a darker shade to accentuate the performance characteristic.
Step inside the car and everything will seem familiar to the normal C-Class. It features the same sleek dashboard, with circular air-vents and a floating iPad-like infotainment system. The 8.4-inch device supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you can stream satellite radio and it also doubles up as a navigation too. The standard fare characters, like leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone air conditioning, electric seats and all find their way into the sedan. However, the C43 do have some special bits and bobs like the flat-bottomed leather steering, an AMG instrument cluster, red safety belts, and aluminium pedals. The best part? It is still a C-Class underneath all the muscle. That means that it can seat four in comfort along with their weekend luggage.
In India, the Mercedes C43 AMG will compete with two cars- The Audi S5 (Rs 66.20 lakh) and the Ford Mustang (Rs 65 Lakhs). The Audi S5 puts out 333PS of power and 440Nm of torque from its 3.0-Litre V6 TFSI engine. While the Ford Mustang makes 401PS of Power and 515Nm of torque from its 4951cc V8 engine. Mercedes C43 AMG India launch is the proof that Indian enthusiasts are not getting ignored. The future for us petrolheads is certainly bright.
