Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 S 4MATIC Launched in India

When it comes to performance cars, the current crop of super sedans is giving tough competition to sportscars. In India, The latest entrant to this segment is the Mercedes-Benz E63 S 4MATIC+ that was launched with a price tag of Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom, India). The latest avatar of AMG E63 has upped the game to become the fastest E-Class ever. Since this is a performance sedan, let’s start with engine first. (Also Read: AMG GT Four Door teased)

Engine and Gearbox

Powering the 2018 E63 S 4MATIC is a twin-turbocharged, 4.0-litre V8 engine that makes 612 PS of power and massive 850 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9 Speed automatic gearbox. As the 4MATIC moniker tells, this sedan sends power to all four wheels. However, there is special drift mode that switches it to rear wheel drive if you are feeling a bit playful.

How well this power translated on the road? The 0-100 kph time stands at just 3.4 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 kph. To fully unlock the speed limiter, Mercedes is selling a special AMG Driver package that allows the car to reach 300 kph.

Exterior

Compared its competition BMW M5, the Mercedes has this understated looks. Yes, it looks sporty but it also manages to look elegant the way a Mercedes should be. From the side, the large forged alloys and the V8 Biturbo moniker is the only giveaway that this is not your regular E-Class. At the front, the muscular bonnet bulges are added to this AMG version and the Avantgarde style sportier grille adds to the element. Move to the rear and you won’t miss the quad exhaust setup finished in black. Surrounding that is an air diffuser.

Interiors

Being a top-spec E-Class, the E63 S 4MATIC+ comes fully loaded with creature comforts. Mercedes has not fully gone hardcore made the interiors too racy. Instead, there is a proper mix of sporty and luxury elements. The seats are bolstered in Nappa leather, the dashboard and other panels have a good use of carbon fiber. The grey accents finds space on the steering wheel, seatbelts and the seats. The instrument cluster gets a racy feel thanks to the chequered flag background display and extra features like lap time recorder and racetimer.

Safety

With such a fast car, safety features are essential. The E63 S comes with latest safety features like active brake assist, proximity warning, 7 airbags, situation-dependant brake assistance, collision warning, and autonomous braking. Also worth mentioning is the Multibeam Intelligent light system that boasts of cornering and self-adjusting high beam function.
