Volvo XC40 SUV is launching on 4th July 2018 in India. But, the bookings for the XC40 have been opened up already and can be done by depositing Rs 5 lakhs. Volvo XC40 is the entry-level SUV offered by the Swedish brand. The XC lineup in India has been a success with models like XC90 and the XC60 which are built on next-generation design. The XC40 follows the same strategy but in a smaller package that will be priced at around Rs 38 lakhs. Looking at the initial response, Volvo is confident that it will book over 200 cars before the official launch on 4th July.
The XC40 Volvo sits under the XC60 that was launched recently. These SUVs share several styling elements and features between each other. That said, the platform of the XC40 is entirely different compared to its elder XC siblings. Volvo XC40 uses a Compact Modular Architecture platform that it shares with Volvo’s parent company Geely. Inspite of being a completely different platform, the XC40 will have feature list similar to the XC60 and XC90. This includes standard features like 9-inch infotainment with Apple Carplay/Android Auto, Harman Kardon audio system, hill start assist, and Panoramic Sunroof. Like all XC models, this one also seats 5 people.
Engine & Gearbox
XC40 derives its power from a 2-litre, 4 cylinder turbocharged engine that pumps out 190 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels. The Haldex AWD system also comes as a standard and makes offroading easier.
In India, the entry level premium SUV segment is very hot with offerings like Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, and Land Rover Discovery Sport. Volvo XC40 should be a good competition, after all, it’s the recent European Car of the Year winner.
