Competition
The Lexus models being CBU imports, the pricing has been on the higher side (LX 450d SUV is Priced at Rs 2.32 crore). But NX 300h is quite competitively priced to compete with SUVs like Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Volvo XC60, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and BMW X3. Lexus NX 300h is unique in this group because it’s the only hybrid-petrol car here. It ARAI tested fuel economy of 18.32 is class leading and much desirable than diesel engine cars.
Design
In the true Lexus fashion, the design of this SUV is revolutionary rather than evolutionary. Several traditional Japanese design philosophies if incorporated well with the modern design. It features all-LED headlights and taillights. The headlights are signature L shaped and the taillights wrap around the corners. The big Lexus Grille gives it the sporty look with large overhangs. This SUV rides on 18-inch alloys and sports a dual exhaust at the back. What separates the NX 300h F Sport trim form the Luxury trim is the grille design, blacked out wind mirrors, and different alloy design.
Interiors
Step inside, and you’ll notice that the focus is on the sportiness and modernizing the design. This doesn’t mean that it’s not luxurious. It’s loaded with 10.3-inch color infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof, heads-up display, leather upholstery, 14-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, wireless phone charging, hands-free tailgate release, 360-degree camera, and many other latest tech.
The Luxury trim also gets electric folding and ventilated rear seats. The F Sport variant misses out on these luxuries. However, the F Sport trim gets sportier dual-tone interiors, more supportive front seats, aluminum pedals, and the artificial sound that is pumped through the speakers (don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing).
Powertrain
The hybrid powertrain of the Lexus NX 300h is the USP of this luxury SUV. So let’s discuss more. It consists of a 2.5-litre, petrol powered 4-pot engine that is coupled to two electric motors. The combined power output of this setup is 197 PS along with a combined torque of 210 Nm. This powertrain utilizes an eCVT automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels (depending on the driving mode). Now, these power numbers might look weak in front of its competition. But the performance of this SUV is quite decent. 0-100 kph comes up in 9.2 seconds and the car can hit a top speed of 180 kph. The driver can choose from five driving modes- Normal, Eco, Sport, Sport+ and Custom. All these settings tweak the throttle response, gearshift speed, steering feedback, and suspension.
Safety
The standard fitment safety system includes traction control, ABS, Stability control, Hill start assist, Cornering head lights, parking cameras, and 8 airbags.
We are waiting for Lexus LS 500h sedan that is launching on 15th January
